Alright, let’s see if I can keep this as brief as possible, here goes:
I was born in Berlin, and raised in South Jamaica Queens, New York.
Graduated from High School clueless as to my career path in ’96, then headed to Mississippi to find it.
Got a job in a Poultry Plant in a small town named Laurel. Realized fairly quickly that I didn’t have a passion for making little chicken breasts into big chicken breasts for a living. So I began to think very, very hard about my immediate future.
Decided on a Junior College in Upstate New York the following year and was convinced that being a professional chef was the ticket. Learned that chefs had to cook! – changed majors; put one foot on my career path when my new major became Communication Media Arts. Graduated.
Headed back down to Mississippi and completed my undergrad with a degree in Radio, Television and Film. Before I left the south, I got my first video credit doing production Assist/Boom Mic Operator, for a straight-to-DVD project featuring Cedric the Entertainer – called The Starting Line Up.
Went back to the Mountains of New York to prepare for my next move. Got a job at Walmart selling Rifles to hunters, and saved the money.
Spent the $80 dollars I saved working at Walmart, and began making my way to Orlando, Florida. Attended Full Sail University, and put my second foot on my career path. Graduated with honors, and the ability to sprint, jump, pole vault, and hurdle my way through the field of Digital Media.
Became an Associate Producer Intern at Nickelodeon, where I worked on a show called Summer Slime Live, and learned that Sponge Bob could be pretty funny at times. That was also the first and last summer I drank Yoo-Hoo every other day in craft services, yuck.
Seeking to broaden my speaking abilities, and be comfortable with communicating with large groups, I snagged a position back at Full Sail University which entailed traveling the country speaking to interested prospective students about the school and the Full Sail experience. Developed a love for travel but realized that I sucked at finding the hotel from the airport when driving a rental car through states that I’d never been to. I also learned that MapQuest is about as useful as a butter knife in a shootout.
During my travels, I had opportunities to freelance for an Orlando-based company – Promo Only. I created Motion Graphic segues for a show they produced for MTV2, called Monster Mix. I pretty much lost it the first time I saw my work on TV! I felt like one of those music artists who’d just heard their record on the radio for the first time. I eventually began working for Promo Only on a full time basis. In addition to Motion Graphics; they also blessed me with the opportunity to create Video Mix Show edits for their major record label clients. Because of the opportunities I grabbed at Promo, I was remixing video edits for Rihanna, Mariah Carey, The Pussy Cat Dolls, Armand Van Helden, Shape UK, and The Killers all with the approval of the record labels. Sweet!
After Promo, I explored corporate arenas, and worked for a company named Premiere Trade, where I created 3D Animations, Audio Edits, and did some extra basic Compositing work, all in the name of trading the Forex. It was a pretty sweet gig but when Hurricane Layoffs swept the building, I headed for higher ground before it made its way to my cubicle.
Weeks later I took an opportunity to be a Rich Media Developer over at Miles Media, in Sarasota, Fla. My days consisted of traveling to the best beaches, hotels, festivals, spas, restaurants, attractions, resorts, state parks, golf courses, and shops – from Pensacola to The Keys; to film it, edit it, and sometimes even write about the sights, flavors, textures, and all the experiences the beautiful state had to offer. I’m still speechless and extremely grateful for the blessing. If you’re curious about my life on the road, you can check out my latest adventures here: On The Road.
Over the years I’ve focused on my passion for photography, writing, painting, public speaking, consulting, blogging, content management systems, and an assortment of social media outlets.
I also love to laugh, drink Guinness, and listen to super extra dope Mixtapes. If you’d like to know what a super extra dope Mixtape sounds like, then drop me a line and I will put you on. I HATE to cook, but I can make a smoothie that will make your leg shiver. As matter of fact, as soon I’m finished writing this, I’m going to do just that; but if you don’t come get it, I’m going to drink it. You’ve got five minutes.
Well, that sums it up on my end. I don’t really know how brief that was, but I will tell you this: you’re a great listener and I appreciate your time, yo.
Yep,
Amon
